3 is the Charm

The title of this blog is 3 is the Charm. I've been asked to explain why I am proud of being on my third marriage. Well here it is.

First of all let me say that I am not proud that the first two did not work out. However, I am very proud that after all these years I have figured out why they did not last.

The point is that the first two times we did not invite Christ into our marriage. We tried to do it alone. Sure, we went to church occasionally but we were not very good Christians. This third time around, both my wife and I are active members of our church and we attend Bible studies
together. We have invited Christ into our lives and our marriage and now things have been much smoother with Jesus in our everyday life.

I was also asked to show how my being divorced twice was biblically correct. The answer to that is in Matthew 19:9. "And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery." In both of my previous marriages my wife committed adultury, which is a biblical reason for divorce.

As far as gays go, Leviticus 18:22 says, "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination." That is just one of the many places in the Bible that it says that gay marriage is not okay.

I hope this answers Philip Del Ricci's question.

What does Easter have to do with Gays?

I'm reading the papers on line and The Washington Post has a story entitled " On Soggy Day, a Cluster of Rainbows - 200 Gay and Lesbian Parents Join Thousands at White House Egg Roll." ABC News has a story, " Brokeback Bunny? Gays vie for Easter Egg Roll." Even an Australian paper had a story, "White House Easter Egg Roll a Little Queer."

What does Easter have to do with gays? Are we that hard up for news stories that the media has to create a big deal over a handful of gays and lesbians trying to make a statement. There were over 16,000 people at the White House egg roll yet the media had to focus on the small group of gays. What does Easter have to with eggs? I thought it was all about Christ rising from the dead and ascending into Heaven!

I feel sorry for the children of those gay folks...when I read the Bible it says that God is against same sex partners. I'm glad there is legislation in place to ban gay sex marriage and adoptions.

Why am I at work on Good Friday?

There is something wrong with this picture. This is Holy Week at our church. A very special time of the year -- today is Good Friday, the day that Christians celebrate the Crucifixion of Christ.

"Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." (Luke 22:34)

Why do we celebrate -- because Jesus died for our sins and then on Easter Sunday He arose from the dead and ascended into Heaven!

We used to get Good Friday and sometimes even Monday after Easter off from work...not anymore. Here I am at hard at work -- okay, maybe not so hard, since I am actually blogging instead of working! But the point is our important holidays have been shoved aside. It's not right.

Who gave anyone the power to change all the holidays around anyway? When I was a kid we celebrated Washington's birthday on Feb. 22nd, the day that he was born. Lincoln's birthday was Feb. 12th -- if you ask a child today when these president's were born, they probably couldn't answer. Now we have President's Day on the third Monday of February and combine the birthdays. You can't change somebody's birthday -- what's up with that?

WOW, I can't believe it; as I sit here at work typing this blog entry, my phone rings and it's my boss. (He happens to be on vacation in Florida.) Anyway he says to pass the word around that we can close up the office and everyone can go home at 3:00!

That's GREAT NEWS, but it doesn't change my mind about this blog entry. I would like to hear your comments about Good Friday and Easter, and working on holidays and people changing the birthdays of our forefathers, etc. etc.

HAPPY EASTER

Is it a sin to play the lottery?

Is it a sin to play the lottery? It's a form of gambling, so it must be a sin. I'm interested to see what everyone thinks about this. I live smack-dab in the middle of the Bible Belt here in North Carolina.

It's been a long time coming...North Carolina has been fighting the lottery ever since I can remember. Finally we have a state lottery now. During the first week of operation, NC sold over $24 million in lotterty scratch off tickets.

I usually don't have any extra money to spend on things such as lottery tickets, but I thought I would give it a try today and bought $5.00 worth of scratch off tickets. Two $2.00 tickets and one $1.00 ticket.

This must be my lucky day because two out of the three tickets turned out to be WINNERS! One ticket was worth $20.00 the other $7.00. Not quite enough to quit my job and retire on my winnings, but I'll take the $27.00! Thank you very much.
I play the lottery once in a while and usually spend $5.00 at a time.

I'm curious to know what everyone else thinks about the lottery and what you spend on lottery tickets.
Please answer the following question by leaving a comment: How much money do you spend on lottery tickets each week?
  • $1-$5
  • $6-$10
  • $11-$20
  • More than $20 per week
If you do not play the lottery because you think it is sinful then please show me the scripture that backs up your belief.

Was Judas A Hero?

When we hear the name Judas, we think of a villian, the man who betrayed Jesus and turned Him over to authorities! Now there has been a discovery that potrays Judas as a hero!

The National Geographic Society released this picture of the "Gospel of Judas", an ancient document discovered in the Egyptian desert in 1970. It has been translated into English by a team of scholars. The text is part of a document written in the Coptic language and has been dated to around the year 300. It is a copy of an earlier Greek version.

The document shows Judas as a good friend of Jesus and indicates that he was only doing what he was instructed to do by Jesus. It differs for the accounts in the other Gospels of the Bible and is a subject of great controversy.

I'm curious to hear what others think about this new discovery. I cannot say yet, since I haven't seen the entire text. I'm sure it will be available soon. Please leave your comments.

The Easter Bunny VS. Jesus

image by ChristArt.comApril 16th is Easter Sunday. For Christians it is a time of celebration marking the end of the Lenten Season which began on Ash Wednesday. We also remember Easter as the day that Jesus ascended into Heaven!

If you ask most any child what Easter is all about, chances are they won't mention Jesus but will say The Easter Bunny! So how is it that a rabbit, brightly colored eggs, and chocolate have taken the spotlight away from Christ on this Holy day?

Easter originated long ago as a pagan holiday celebrating the goddess Eastre. She was the goddess of offspring and springtime. It just so happened that the ancient Saxons were honoring Eastre at the same time the Christian's were celebrating the Resurrection of Christ so the two holidays eventually merged together and became one and the name was changed to Easter. So how about the Easter Bunny, where did that come from? The answer again is Eastre; her earthly symbol was the rabbit.

Many cultures had a tradition of exchanging eggs in the springtime because the egg was a symbol of rebirth. The eggs were often wrapped with gold leaf or colored brightly by boiling them with the leaves or petals of certain flowers. Spring is a time of rebirth when all the flowers begin to bloom again and earth comes back to life.

In our house we do have Easter baskets filled with candy and chocolate bunnies for the children. We also have a tradition of coloring eggs; however, if you ask our grandchildren what Easter is all about, I am proud to say that they will tell you the story of Jesus!
