What translation of the Bible do you read?

There are many different translations of the Bible. I like the New International Version because it is easier for me to understand than the King James Version.

Please leave a comment and tell me which translation you prefer and why.

If you don't read the Bible please tell me why not.

Remember the Real Meaning of Memorial Day

Memorial Day has for a long time been remembered as the beginning of Summer. A long three-day weekend filled with picnics, beach trips and parties and the Indianapolis 500! Let's take a moment to remember the real meaning of Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is really a time to commemorate U.S. men and women who died in military service for their country. Originally known as Decoration Day, it first honored Union Soldiers who died in The Civil War. After World War I, it was expanded to include all wars or military actions.

It is traditional to fly the U.S. Flag at half-staff from dawn to noon. We used to celebrate Memorial Day on May 30th, but somewhere along the line the date was changed to the last Monday in May to insure a long weekend.

If you want to go out and party this weekend -- that's fine -- but please take a moment to reflect on the real meaning of the holiday and give thanks for all of those brave men and women who have given their lives for this great country that we live in!

This would also be a good time to pray for the folks that are currently serving in our military.

Have a GREAT HOLIDAY!

Unusual Place for a Nest

My wife and I were eating breakfast on our patio this morning when we noticed something new. There is a bird's nest with 3 little eggs in it. We did not see the mother bird, so I don't know what kind it is, but we are tickled that the eggs are here. It's an unusual place for a nest...right in the middle of a hanging plant on our patio!

We are very fortunate to live in a small town where there are birds everywhere. We wake up in the morning to the beautiful sounds of birds chirping -- what a great symphony to awake to each day!

There are many different types of birds in our yard including, Robins, Blue Jays, Finches, Sparrows, Hummingbirds, and Doves. We have a couple of big Cyprus Trees which are like condominiums for the birds...there are many nests in those trees.

I hope and pray that all the new construction that is going on in our area does not drive the birds away!

Domestic Violence

Are You A Victim of Abuse?

Everyone argues or fights with their spouse or partner every now and then. However, there is a big difference between a common squabble and an abusive situation!

Here are some symptoms to look for:

  • Has your spouse or partner ever threatened you or your children?
  • Has your spouse or partner ever hit you?
  • Have you been forced to do something you did not want to do?
  • Has your spouse or partner destroyed your clothing or other things you really like?

Here is a link with a state by state listing of Domestic Violence Resources. Check it out...Don't be a victim!
